On a trip earlier this year I travelled with my family from Malaysia up to Thailand for a few days. While staying in the city of Hat Yai just across the border I came across this restaurant/coffee house one evening and it immediately reminded me of Edward Hoppers "Nighthawks" painting. I returned later that evening to take some reference photos and on return home to England started on my Thai version of the painting: "Hat Yai Nighthawks". It was selected by the South West Academy for the 2017 Open Exhibition.
